See Hilary Duff Return to Music With “Mature," First Song in 10 Years
Hilary Duff's Husband Matthew Koma Makes Candid Confession About Their Sex Life

Hilary Duff's music career is no longer so yesterday.

The Lizzie McGuire star released her first new song, "Mature," in over 10 years on Nov. 6—and the track was accompanied by a music video that introduces the more grown-up era for her.

In the Lauren Dunn-directed clip, Hilary—clad in a gold mini dress with frill detailing and coordinating fur coat—gets ready in a vanity mirror, applying lipstick, fixing her hair and admiring a bouquet of pink flowers on her dressing room table. And when she finally takes the theater stage to perform atop a white circular daybed, there's only one person in the audience: herself.

"She looks like she could be your daughter / Like me before I got smarter," Hilary sings on the chorus. "When I was flattered to hear you say / You're so mature for your age."

And those aren't the only lyrics that prove the Younger alum is leaning into being a more experienced singer-songwriter. On the first verse, Hilary describes an NSFW scenario between her ex and his new partner.

"Going down on her on your vintage rug / Bet she's so impressed by your Basquiat," the line reads. "And she thinks your deep in the ways you're not now, now."

As for Hilary's inspiration behind the track? The 38-year-old—who co-wrote "Mature" with her husband Matthew Koma and Madison Love—insisted it actually has nothing to do with a former lover.

“‘Mature’ is a little conversation that my present self is having with my younger self,” she explained in a press release. “The two of us are reflecting on a past experience and sending love to each other. It’s a chuckle, a wink, and a sense of being grateful that we are sure footed in where we landed.”

However, Hilary partly credited her decision to return to music—which comes 10 years after releasing her fourth album Breathe In. Breathe Out.—to being married to Matthew, who has previously produced hits for the likes of Britney Spears, Zedd, Shania Twain and One Republic.

"Living with the person that I live with—who's my husband—and just being 10 years removed from music and being 38 and just arriving kind of where I am in my life," the Another Cinderella Story actress explained on the Nov. 5 episode of Jake Shane's Therapuss podcast, "I just felt like I can finally fill in the blanks."
